New Zealander jailed in Cambodia for rape

A Cambodian court has sentenced a New Zealand man to 20 years in jail for raping five mostly underage girls, while his Cambodian wife was convicted for assisting in the crimes.

The AFP newsagency says Graham Robert Cleghorn, 57, was found guilty by a court in northwestern Siem Reap province and will be deported after completing his jail term in Cambodia.

The defendant was also ordered to pay compensation of $US2,000 to the families of each of the five victims.

Cleghorn, who has lived in Cambodia for 10 years, worked as a guide at the famed Angkor Wat temples near Siem Reap.

His 26-year-old Cambodian wife was found guilty of conspiracy for procurring the women for her husband, and received a three year jail sentence, but was instead allowed to serve five years probation.
